Summary: Generally the Golden lion was ok. The room we stayed in could have done with some improvement, a wardrobe, shelf in the bathroom and a general overhaul. The breakfast was good, no complaints. However there was a big negative. We stayed in the button suite, I cannot comment on the other rooms, but it wasn't a good experience. The reason for this is what occurs on a Friday and Saturday nights. Next door is a night club. The music starts at 2000 hrs and finishes at 0030 hrs. It was bad enough in the bedroom but going into the bathroom was something else. I thought I was actually in the club the noise was so loud. At 2300 hrs I rang downstairs and spoke to a member of staff who explained where the noise was coming from and that it used to be the case that it finished at 0200 hrs. Boy did I feel lucky. This was Friday/ Saturday ,so we decided we would leave Saturday as we couldn't stand another night of disturbed sleep and awful music. We had breakfast, spoke to the manager who apologized and took our leave. I must make clear that I do not hold the pub responsible for the night club or indeed the music, but things could be done to alleviate the issue . Either do not use that room on those nights or at least forewarn those unfortunates that are sleeping there the possible issues. . I am of course out of pocket and had a weekend away partly ruined.
